This article is about Jus Dance, Inc. which is a hand/line dance instruction class, founded and taught by Linwood Q. Ham (born July 24, Leo) with partner Cassandra Contee (born December 6, Sagittarius). They are now teaching at the Lake Arbor Community Center in Maryland. Linwood and Cassandra created Jus Dance, Inc. in 1997 and their first class was at the South Bowie Community Center.
Linwood is a retired Unit Coordinator/Project Manager in Facility Maintenance. He shared his talent with the Board of Elections during the Obama presidential elections. Cassandra is an Information Technology Specialist/Project Manager. Cassandra is a Washingtonian and Linwood moved to DC when he was very young. Both share the spirit of hand dancing and plan to keep it alive.
They met in a very special way. Linwood took lessons at Smooth & Ez and graduated in Class 8. After he graduated, he became an instructor and then met Cassandra, who was attending the potential graduating Class 13. Linwood decided to go forward with his knowledge, abilities, and style of dance to begin teaching his own classes. Of course, he saw something special about Cassandra and asked her to venture out with him on this special endeavor. She said, "yes". The rest is history for them. He being a Leo and her Sagittarius and both having the love of "dance" it was destined that they would still be together today.
I had the pleasure of visiting their class in November 2009. They teach the 7-count step of hand dancing. There was a mixture of about 20-30 students and instructors attending the class. The class is held on Mondays. They had warm-up time, then practice time, then lesson time. Linwood gave the lesson explanation and demonstration. He is very vocal, clear, and precise about his teaching method. Cassandra also helps lead the class. I was impressed that all of the students were in order in unison while doing the basic step. They have been practicing. Jus Dance, Inc. teaches beginners and advanced classes. These classes incorporate intermediate lessons. I asked about the meaning of the different color tee shirts and this was the response: blue and gray are for returning graduates, white for instructors in training, and yellow, green, and black are for the instructors.
Jus Dance, Inc. gives some good graduation parties. The food was lavish and generous. The music is diverse, the guest are fun, the ceremonies are exciting, and Linwood and Cassandra are the perfect hosts.
Jus Dance, Inc. offers Line Dancing Workshops for about $5.00 on Saturdays from 12 noon until 1:30 PM. For more information on their teaching schedule and reasonable fees, please visit their Website at
Check out the two logos at the top of the article. They were created as a gift and given to Linwood and Cassandra from their graduating class of 2000. I love Linwood's little ponytail, its different, cute, and his trademark. Cassandra is always dressed and looking good. They both have positive attitudes, pleasant dispositions, and a sense of happiness and fun about them. Great people with a positive mission and a future plan for Jus Dance, Inc.!
Good luck Jus Dance, Inc.
